MultiCare Health System joins Preemptive as strategic investor
MultiCare Ventures, the investment arm of the Pacific Northwest health system, joins the seed round to support the development of Preemptive's physiological monitoring layer.
As health systems continue the difficult transition from fee-for-service to value-based care, the need for continuous, home-based physiological data has never been greater.
TACOMA, WA — Preemptive is proud to announce that MultiCare Health System has joined its seed financing round as a strategic investor. The investment was made through MultiCare Ventures, the organization's corporate venture capital arm dedicated to fostering innovation in healthcare delivery.
While not yet a commercial deployment, this investment signals strong market validation from a major health system that manages over 11 hospitals and hundreds of clinics across Washington state. It underscores the industry's recognition that the current "episodic" model of care is insufficient for managing complex populations.
Investing in Infrastructure
Health systems are increasingly responsible for the total cost of care for their patients, yet they often lack visibility into what happens once a patient leaves the clinic. Preemptive fills this gap by building a "sensing layer" that exists beneath the traditional acute and primary care stack.
"We are investing in Preemptive because they are building the infrastructure that value-based care has been missing. We cannot manage risk if we cannot see it developing."
Strategic Alignment
The partnership aligns with MultiCare's broader strategy to extend care beyond the hospital walls. By backing technologies that enable early detection, MultiCare is positioning itself at the forefront of the shift toward preventative medicine.
"This is more than capital," said Jamien McCullum, CEO of Preemptive. "It is a partnership with a system that understands the operational reality of healthcare. Their insight will be invaluable as we refine our clinical workflows to integrate seamlessly with existing provider teams."

The Thesis
